Antiviral Medication
There are several antiviral medications available by prescription
that can reduce the symptoms and length of the flu if taken within
the first 2 days of the onset of symptoms. There is some evidence
that the medication might also keep you from passing the flu to others.
Sometimes individuals in close contact with someone else who has
the flu might take the medication to reduce his/her chance of getting
the flu.
The Center for Disease Control (CDC) encourages the use of antiviral
medications particularly if you are at high risk for complications
and/or are around a lot of people.
- If you are a student you can go to the Student Health
Center to see about getting a prescription for the medication.
- If you are a staff or faculty member you need to see
your personal health care provider.
