About the Vaccine / FluMist

Faculty and staff

Health Promotion will not receive any vaccine for faculty and staff this year due to the vaccine shortage.   If you are in a high risk population we advise you to see your personal health care provider or call the Appalachian District Health Department (264-6635) regarding their availability of the vaccine.   You can place your name on their priority list and if they receive more vaccine you will be called.

Who is in the high risk groups?

  • All children aged 6 - 23 months
  • Adults aged 65 years and older
  • Persons aged 2 - 64 years with chronic health problems
  • All women who will be pregnant during the flu season
  • Residents of nursing homes and long-term care facilities
  • Children 6 months - 18 years on chronic aspirin therapy
  • Health care workers with direct patient care, and
  • Out-of-home caregivers and household contacts with children under 6 months of age

FluMist™

FluMist™ is a new nasal mist flu vaccine available in the US.   It is indicated for healthy children and adults, 5 to 49 years of age.   For more information on FluMist™ go to:
